Can it be fun to learn new things? Of course it can! Last week our MYP students in Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School had the opportunity to participate in new extra circular activities that are designed to teach them skills beyond the games they represent.

Chess teaches logic and mathematical reasoning, so the chess club met and students learned how to use their chess pieces to play a game, but also how to think about the game they were playing logically.

Tae Kwan Do teaches students to be strong in mind and body and tae kwan do club met to practice high kicks and strong punches and to give students a great chance to exercise and get their body and mind into the habit of being disciplined and focused! With May as their teacher the kids in MYP will go far!

Drama teaches the art of acting, it showed the kids in MYP that acting can be as intense and exciting as it is demanding and beautiful. Krista helped the kids understand the dynamic and exciting nature of learning to act, and how to act in a play to demonstrate acting skills!

Flower arranging is a traditional Chinese art; it also teaches the kids in MYP how to find what is aesthetically pleasing in shapes, forms and objects and gives them an appreciation for beauty.

All of these activities were made for the students to enjoy an activity and learn useful skills at the same time, but most importantly gave them a chance to have fun away from their demanding academic schedule!
