A happy time in “How to tell a story”

Today, we enjoyed a wonderful time in “Waffle Land”. We sat in the gym and listened to Joey, our knowledgeable and fun English teacher to do a speech on “How to tell a story”.
“What makes a story?” Joey raised a question, and everyone began whispering. Different students had different thinking, Joey smiled and showed us the six main elements of a story. They are setting, plot, conflict, character, point of view and of course a theme! Among these elements, the character should be the soul of a story. Then, Joey let us try to make up a story with our imagination, many students raised their hands. How excited they were!
When we were telling a story, Joey said, we must concentrate on it, and we should imagine that we are the leading character. After that, he demonstrated a scary story to us called “A rainy night”. Joey lowered his voice, played the background music. We all became quiet, he brought us into a scary raining night, we could imagine that the taxi driver was scared and the girl who had red eyes and was angry.
What a good story teller Joey is!
After the scary moment, Joey invited a boy to give a comedy show. The boy was a funny guy, he told us some funny things he met. The whole room burst into laughter. At last, a sad story came, it was about how a woman missed her husband who died in a war in Vietnam, and we all felt sad……Joey showed us feelings are important in storytelling.
Finally, Joey invited one student from each class to play a game—story relay. He gave an interesting title and the students were very passionate and imaginative, and they made a wonderful story for us.
All in all, we really enjoyed today’s English activity, and we learned a lot. I bet that every student is a perfect story teller now. Great thanks to Joey, thank you for your contribution.
