深入模联，探讨国际重大议题

    2013年5月18、19日，世界外国语中学派出四十位代表参加了为期两天的第六届“向明杯”长三角地区中学生模拟联合国大会。本届大会设立“巴黎和会”、“联合国大会法律委员会”“世界贸易组织”“UNEP”、“UNHC”五个会场，其中包括两个英文会场以及三个中文会场。与会代表分组就国际联盟议案与避免战争、对跨国犯罪打击的联合行动、知识产权的跨国维护、特殊废弃物处置与缩减、南斯拉夫的分裂与波斯尼亚战争等议题进行了磋商。值得一提的是，我校派出的代表全部由Pre-DP9、10年级的同学组成，队伍中的绝大多数都是第一次参加模联比赛，但他们丝毫不怯场，充分展现出世外学子应有的能力与风采。

    会议过程中，分布在各个会场的世外学子显露出沉稳从容的心态与临危不惧的姿态，无论是代表发言还是动议磋商，各国代表都清晰表达出自己的观点与立场，并不断在自由磋商环节提出新颖的想法与建设性意见，思维的火花无时无刻不在摩擦与碰撞，流利的高质量发言更是个人综合能力的全面展现。

    这次大会锻炼了我们的个人能力，提高了思维水平，更给予我们宝贵的社交良机，为我们今后的模联活动打下了坚实的基础，积累了丰富的经验，相信正走在国际化教育轨道的我们，在未来的日子里会更加成熟、更加稳健。

    时间已逝，记忆犹存，短暂的两天会议时间在一阵阵掌声与欢笑中完美拉下帷幕。试问举行模拟联合国大会的意义所在，便是将每个人的心凝聚在一起，让我们的心体验非凡，让我们的情紧紧缠绕，让我们在一个不同的环境收获不一样的精神财富。

Our First MUN Experience

Model United Nation meeting was held on 5/18 to 5/19, gathering hundreds of students from around ten different schools together, divided into five sections. This meeting will surely be a wonderful and remarkable one.

Model United Nation is an academic activity which facilitates the improvement of students’ comprehensive abilities. The first part of the meeting is to write a position paper by each delegation group, expressing the points and attitude towards the problem. Normally this paper is not yet perfect since lots of ideas need to be discussed and revised
until it becomes completed and well-organized. Later when the meeting started, delegates start to make speeches on their ideas, make motions to let different delegates have discussions on specific topic so that the thought of different nation can be expressed and be known by other nations. Actually, discussion like this is pretty tiring; one single session lasts two and a half hours, with continuous speeches, requires constant fast-paced thinking in order to keep up with the topics, and that makes delegates get exhausted soon. After knowing the thoughts of other delegates, people can either revise their own points and agree with them, or can have disapproving and have more discussion until agreements are reached. The whole process of meeting carried out smoothly, without any serious disputes or quarrels, though some of the points, like the way to provide humanitarian aid or financial support still has some doubts, main ideas of the countries are mostly the same.

Working papers are needed then, listing some points that are already verified and can be the base of more following topics. Then some crisis happened, enforcing delegates to make some more extra decision to deal with the crisis. Delegates need to think fast to write draft directive to cope with the trouble. Finally, after the first day’s meeting, council requires a draft resolution, which means the final decisions made by the council. The sessions on the second day was mainly about revising the clauses in the D.R. which is generally seen as the major outcome of the meeting.

In sum, the process of the meeting was really exciting and meaningful, making everyone taken part in it learn a lot, and I believe Model United Nation meeting will carry on and make more people experience the joy of it.
