用行动去实现梦想

——世外师生赴北京参加“明日领袖论坛”活动

9月5日，我们世外中学一行四名老师、四名学生一早便踏上了开往北京的列车。这两天的首都之旅可大致归为两个活动——聆听讲座与参与学校活动，而这两个活动都使我获益匪浅。

当天，我们赴北京四中参加“明日领袖论坛”。Me to We的创始人之一Craig Kirberger先生做了一番精彩的演讲，他一再强调，Me to We这一公益组织的逐渐壮大，源自他小时候读到的一则新闻，这使他的心惊动、震撼，自此坚持不懈、不顾阻拦地帮助世上的穷苦人民。他对于牧羊人的一段话令我印象极其深刻，他说牧羊人大多都在羊群的最后赶羊，以确保没有羊脱离了大部队——这就是Servant Leader的概念，受人尊敬的领袖应有奉献自我的精神、团队平等的意识。Kirberger先生生动地向观众展现了他对领袖的理解，却也提出“明日”的用词不够精当——不要以自己还未成年为由而迟迟不去为公益出一份力，从“今日”开始行动才更为妥当。之后上场的各界领袖都给了我们一些建议，其中几条我认为值得同学们借鉴：

1、欣然迎接挑战，因为它们使你变得强大

2、如果你想创业，就想办法去和企业创始人多多交流

3、博览群书，艺术、音乐、科技、农业等等领域都应涉猎

4、兼听则明，多了解信息但不要轻易动摇自己的决定

5、不能对时事不闻不问

如果说，北京四中给人气派、壮阔的印象，而北京二中更多的是典雅、古朴。行程的第二天，我们来到二中，古色古香的建筑风格在历史的沉淀下显得尤为精致。在近乎290年风霜雨雪的洗礼下，这所北京顶尖的学校送走了一届又一届的学生，用“桃李满天下”来形容毫不为过。课间与二中的学生擦肩而过时，能感受到他们的大气，这或许源自学校的传统文化教育，从布局上看不崇洋媚外，反之，是尽力把自己的文化展现给世人，倒有一种别样的风情。

两日的活动一晃而过，我们明白了作为一个学生也可以积极了解公益事业，它不仅是成人的事业，也是我们学生应该关注和可以尝试去做的，这也跟我们IB课程的CAS理念非常贴合。切身经历必然给人更深刻的体会，既然体会深刻，那就该有所行动了。引用此次北京四中明日领袖论坛的主题作为结语：“梦想改变世界，行动实现梦想。“

The delegation of our school consisting of four students and four leaders of the school (teachers: Ms. Mu, Ms.Wu, Ms.Jiang and Ms. Wan; students: Zhou Shu, Niu Tianyue, Zhang Qingning and Pei Wenrui) was invited to the Summit—“China’s Leaders of Tomorrow” on September 5^th 2013 and experienced academic culture of Beijing on the following day. 

The definition of leadership varies from people to people due to diverse temperaments, but it’s without doubt that the world desires for leaders that give competitive edges in leading in economics, politics, education etc. The most important thing, which at the same time is most frequently ignored, is the responsibility in philanthropy, in other words, bearing the duties of repaying kindness back to the people that they manage to led.

It is our privilege to meet Mr. Craig Kielburger in person, who is founder of the organization “Me to We” and three times nominator for Nobel Peace Prize for his social feedbacks. His opening speech and his passion infusing the message he addressed to us awakened our determinations that have lain deep within, just as what the slogan that appears on the T-shirts of the volunteers of the Me to We says—Be the Change.

  It is time for us to end waiting at the same old place for someone else to change our lives. It is time for us, the leaders of tomorrow, to start to participate at the any single moment that can trigger great changes in the world. Later on, leaders of today, including Li Yapeng, Cao Guowei, Xu Xiaoping and others who already have great achievements and experiences, expressed their expectations for the successors of them. They were all in tune with each other in emphasizing the importance of social services and bearing the strength of good acts inside your heart. As Audrey Hepburn described: “For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.”

Visiting the two outstanding schools in Beijing (Being No.4 and Beijing No.2) also left us deeper thoughts of the development of our own school. Strolling along the corridors inside the building of wisdom that accumulated through years of history, we pondered deeply over how to establish and perfect our own school culture in WFLMS. I wouldn’t say that either of the school could be literally better or greater than the other one, but I firmly believe that the cultural diversity of different schools and regular communications and exchanges in educational visions would result in rapid developments for both sides, which is what we all look forward to.

As the capital city of China for centuries, Beijing has always been a living cultural relic that remains to be discovered. To experience her academic atmosphere, we joined the teachers in a brief tour through Tsinghua University and saw this Chinese university from a brand new and international perspective.

The explorations of different cultures would never cease, just like the excavation of the inner world of each individual. What we have gained through the brief trip is not limited to this journey but extended a far-sighted view toward the world, starting by casting a different and sagacious eye on the world around us and the world inside ourselves.
